Beyond the Extraordinary.

ANSI and ISO define graphene as a single plane of sp2 carbon bound atoms in a hexagonal honeycomb lattice. Furthermore, the term "graphene" can refer to materials containing up to and including ten layers of carbon.

ISO has also recently revised a set of words and definitions for graphene and related two-dimensional (GR2D) materials, which now contains terms relating to production processes, characteristics, and characteriszation. ISO DEFINITIONS

Furthermore, a system to define, characterise, describe, and document any seven forms or types of graphene—including monolayer, few layer, graphene nano platelets, graphene oxide (GO), reduced graphene oxide (rGO), and functionalized graphene materials—was created by The Graphene Council.
